A few years back, I bought a book entitled The Salvage Sisters. This was the story of two sisters who combed curbsides and alleyways looking for jewels in the rough; good quality pieces of vintage furniture or accessories that were now considered garbage. These women were able to see beyond the state of disrepair the castoffs were in, and had the ability to visualize them as useable, handcrafted items. This trash to treasure concept had an undeniable appeal to me. Not only did it provide an outlet for my artistic abilities, but every piece of furniture that was rescued and refurbished meant one less article in our already overflowing landfills. Being able to do my small part in keeping our planet green inspired me to create "Vintage With A Twist."

After doing a little homework on what was truly vintage and what was reproduction, I began to peruse my surrounding neighborhoods. The streets were teeming with excellent "finds." It was easy to spot the classic, well built pieces that offered an array of fresh, updated uses.

I clean and sand every piece, and then begin the wonderful journey of transformation. Since each piece is unique and one of a kind, the techniques used vary from painting, staining, gilding, decoupaging, or a combination of any of these. For detail work, I often use vintage ribbon, fabric, buttons, or wallpaper.

The finished product may be traditional, folk art, country style, or whimsical. It may be a combination of different pieces of furniture. It will always be a functional, handcrafted article that will add a lovely or lively dash of interest to your home, garden, or office.

Stashed away in my cellar, I keep a small inventory of miscellaneous vintage home furnishings. These are pieces that I am saving for clients who want a specific, customized piece. Check the " Blank Canvases" page for availability. ( Coming as soon as I can figure out how to download pictures!)
